Fruit Bouquet #2

So who doesn't love the Hungry Caterpillar? I didn't realize what I was in for when I embarked on this bouquet. It was a bit trickier then my others but it worked out fairly well in the end. It contains Kiwi, strawberries, chocolate covered strawberries, pears, watermelon, plum and grapes. I think it would be cute to add pineapple butterflies and personalization such as a name or congratulatory saying.

Homeschool here we come....

So our shipment arrived in the mail from Connections Academy. It was like Christmas, but I can't deny that I was a bit overwhelmed by it all. It is as if I am going back to school too and the nerves of the moment definitely kicked in. I have had some time to get organized and plan out our schedule so I am feeling a bit more confident. Only a week left until school starts!

Creative Fruit Bouquet 1

 

So after making Ethan's fruit bouquet, the inspiration bug hit me and I have been thinking about all sorts of bouquet ideas. My goal is to produce one a week and then put together an album. I was surprised at how tasty this one was. I don't like white chocolate but the combination of ripe strawberries and white chocolate worked really well together. 

Ethan's 5th Birthday

It has been a busy time for me as I prepped for Ethan's big 5th Birthday. For me, it was the most sentimental birthday he has celebrated; even more sentimental then his first. It truly seems to mark the end of an era. He will always be my baby, but he will not always be a little boy. I wanted to commemorate this big milestone with an amazing birthday that he would always remember fondly. For the past few months I have been working on coordinating the big day and for the most part, everything went well. Here were a few highlights:

The Birthday was held in a Castle at Story Land. All 19 of his closest friends were there. They adorned their own crowns that I purchased on Oriental Trading with self adhesive gems. I also had another structured activity planned as I didn't know how the party would progress, but we weren't able to do that one. I made personalized stickers for each child with their royal name (exp: Maddie Marmalade of Morris) and they were to a fix to the shields and then the kids could decorate them any way they wanted. I figure that I can send the stickers along with their thank you card, maybe including a certificate/official letter to thank them for their visit to our Kingdom and then provide them with their honorary title of nobility.  I guess it is better to be too prepared then not prepared enough.

The project that took forever: Initially I questioned whether or not to follow through with this project. I was beginning to have crafter's remorse about 3 horses in. It was much more work then I anticipated, but in the end, it was everyone's favorite part. The kids were so excited to pick out their own Royal Steed and even more excited when they learned that they could take them home. They were truly a labor of love and I am so happy with the end result. The estimated cost per horse rings in around at $5.00, so that is not bad for party favors.

Costco cakes are the best. For $17 you can buy the most delicious cake. Unfortunately they don't really deviate from their preset designs. They were able to write the congratulatory line and then place a green rectangle in the center per my request. Luckily my hubby, an avid Gamer, had a collection of knights and castle pieces and constructed the awesome scene that we see above. I was happy with how it turned out.

Every party needs a good game. I scoured the internet looking for good medieval games to play and couldn't find anything that would work for a tight space. So I just put a spin on an old classic and instead of a tail on a donkey, I thought the fire on the dragon made more sense. I found an image I liked online and then drew it free hand onto felt which was on-sale for $5 at Walmart. My dragon came out a bit girthier then the original but it worked.  I used sticker paper to print out fire stickers and then cut them out. All in all, it was a hit and the kids seemed to really enjoy the game and I was very happy with how it came out.

I made a customized fruit bouquet for Ethan. Every king should be surrounded by such a lavish display. It was actually much easier then I thought it would be. I always wanted to make one and now that I have gotten my proverbial fruit feet wet, there is no stopping me. I used BBQ skewers, a mug from the dollar tree lined with styrofoam and tissue paper, and cookie cutters to help make the letters from Pineapple and a pairing knife for the fine details.

...And here we are after the festivities had come to a close. My favorite moment was when my hubby kissed  me and said that I did a wonderful job. Ethan seemed to revel in the day as well, which brought me so much happiness and I will never forget the excitement on his face: "sweet sweet memories you gave me...memories are made of this" Dean Martin.

Sick Day

Yesterday Ethan woke up sick. It was a brief illness, lasting about 3 hours or so, but it was enough time for me to play nurse and dote on him. I secretly love it when Ethan is sick. Don't get me wrong, I would not wish for a serious illness or anything chronic, but my Ethan turns into the sweetest snuggle bear in the world when he is sick. My usually a-mile-a-minute boy, slows down and will let me love on him.  Even arch-enemy Winsta-weiner got in some love yesterday. It was the cutest thing ever.

 

In other news, I am halfway through making hobby horses for Ethan's party. I had a slight set-back when I ran out of google eyes, but huberoni saved the day. Here is a little sneak preview of things to come....
